Hcg Diet Explained

Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (HCG) is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy. Some recent studies have shown that, when combined with a strict diet regime, it may be helpful in controlling obesity in humans. Taking this further, it has since been used by some dietitians to accelerate weight loss.

In order for this treatment to be fully effective a tightly controlled diet of only 500 calories per day must be adhered to. Both the amount of HCG taken and the amount and type of calories consumed daily are finely balanced. Adjusting the amounts of either HCG or calories taken into the body may affect weight loss. Because of this, a detailed menu plan is usually suggested.

The original hcg diet protocol, a losing weight diet plan was formed by Dr. Simeons and it lasts for twenty six days. During those twenty six days, dieters receive twenty three injections of HCG, with no injections given during the last three days of the diet. Along with the daily injections of HCG, dieters are placed on a very specific 500 calorie diet.

The HCG diet is explained here in simplified terms. For the first three days that the injections are giving, patients are not required to diet. However on the fourth day the 500 calorie diet begins and is continued for the course of the treatment. It takes three days for the HCG injections to begin to take effect and begin to release stored fat deposits, which can provide the body with needed calories.

Treatment is continued for another 20 days whereby the dieter receives an injection daily and consumes only 500 calories. As soon as the dieter successfully achieves the desired weight loss the treatment can be finished.

Foods consumed during the diet should be high in protein and low in carbohydrates and fats. Those on the diet cannot drink alcohol but they are allowed to have coffee or tea with one tablespoon of milk but no sugar, which is served for breakfast and may be consumed at any time during the day.

Only lean meat, such as veal, chicken, fish or lean beef is allowed. One serving of vegetables is allowed for lunch and dinner, although the vegetables are limited to green leafy vegetables, lettuce, celery, tomatoes, onions, radishes, cucumbers, cabbage and asparagus. Fruit is also allowed at each meal; either an apple, an orange, grapefruit or strawberries. One piece of bread is also permitted with lunch and dinner. Some seasonings are allowed, but no butter, oil or salad dressings.

Many have successfully lost weight following this regime, first used during the 1950s and which is once again gaining popularity amongst people who are concerned that they are overweight. With this hcg diet explained, you can maybe try it too? Make sure to consult with your doctor first.
